Case Study ::: STEMSpark LLC
Who Are You?
STEMSpark approached me to design their brand and a few initial deliverables so they could burst onto the STEM scene and get kids and their adult support systems engaged with STEM. When I begin working with a new client, I need to figure out who they are. But when that client is also new-to-their-thing, they need to figure out who they are. And they often need to do it quickly. In my conversations with the founder of STEMSpark, I got a sense of who they were, what they wanted to accomplish and the personality that was taking that ride. Their services are unique (and as such, so are their needs) within this field because they don’t just teach kids. They develop programs for administrators and teachers, educate parents and caretakers on how to engage kids with STEM and they do this for various age groups.
mission
STEMSpark LLC aims to spark curiosity, interest and understanding in science, technology, engineering and mathematics for audiences of all ages.
That’s pointed enough to know what we were after, but general enough to encompass the various subsidiaries of the parent “STEMSpark.”
But Who Are You, Really?
I can learn about an organization and run with it, but in the end, it’s not who I am that matters. The founder of STEMSpark was already positioned to give me specific information about how she saw the brand, herself as a founder, the people they would be communicating with, and how she wanted that to translate. As we talked about branding, I could see it was important that STEMSpark be fun, warm and inviting, and not so serious that kids will feel like it’s just another run-of-the-mill lecture that will put them to sleep. STEMSpark is hands-on. Fun. Not boring. I could also tell it had to look like the professional entity it is, not a kid’s birthday party where something blows up.

What Do You Need?
New ventures often come with visions of grandeur with budget of…well, it’s not grand. So to streamline expenses for STEMSpark, we only did the basics so they could look as legitimate as they are and start getting that brand out into the world, while remaining housed and fed.
